The Liebster Award

I was nominated by The English-speaking Frenchie for the Liebster Award. Thanks so much! I have answered the questions that she posed below. I also nominated 11 more bloggers for the award and wrote 11 questions for them to answer as well. Let’s keep this thing going! I love connecting with other bloggers and finding new content here on the blogosphere.

My Responses:

  1. What is your favorite book, and why does it have a special place in your heart? Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. It was one of the first great works of literature I ever read and I remember as I kid feeling like it was such a big accomplishment to finish it! It’s beautifully written and the characters are so compelling. It’s a classic for a reason.
  2. What is your favorite movie? Why? Saving Private Ryan is my favorite movie because when I watched it for the first time I felt such a prospective shift in the way that I looked at life. At the risk of sounding cheesy, it forced me to reevaluate what truly mattered to me.
  3. What are you passionate about? Why is that so important to you? I am passionate about Irish history! I took a class on Modern Ireland during my first quarter of graduate school in 2018 and have been hooked ever since. It is important to me to tell the stories of under or misrepresented people, specifically women, and how they contributed to Irish history.
  4. What is your favorite time of the day, and why? I love mornings because everything is new and so full of potential! Also, Robbie usually makes me coffee which instantly makes waking up 5,000 times better. Like the Bible says “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” Psalms 30:5b
  5. What is your favorite smell? There is a cupboard in my grandma’s house where she stores candles. It smells like being home.
  6. Why did you start blogging? I started blogging out of boredom and a desire to better hone my writing skills when I was in undergrad. I started up again after Robbie and I got married. It became an escape for me in the first year of our marriage when I was working at a crappy job I hated. I would spend my lunch breaks writing blog posts and wishing for the day when I could be out of there. I stopped blogging for a while once I started my MA program but started up again in the last few months to keep better in touch with family after our move and to have a break from the academic writing I do on a regular basis.
  7. In what piece of clothing do you feel instantly beautiful? I bet there is at least one item you feel confident in. ♡ The black sequin dress I bought for our honeymoon. I wore it one summer in Paris during a rainstorm and then Robbie and I went to a cafe for a breakfast of cappuccinos and croissants. I felt like I was living in a fairytale!
  8. What is your favorite season, and why? I love spring because it’s when my birthday is! Also, I like seeing the world “come back to life” and it always seems to be a season of anticipation–making summer plans, counting down until school is out. I love that. 🙂
  9. In what country would you like to live? That can be yours, or any other. Why? If I could live in New Zealand in a modest white farmhouse with a view of the ocean I would never ask for another thing out of life. New Zealand sounds like paradise to me–not too many people, mild weather, beautiful landscapes, universal healthcare, a slower pace of life. If I could I’d drop everything, grab my husband and my cats, book a flight to Auckland, and never look back.
  10. What is the most important quality a person can have according to you? Honesty. If you can’t trust someone nothing else really matters. I believe in being honest even to a fault!
  11. What would be your best advice to your younger self? Go to a doctor and get on some anti-anxiety medication. There is nothing wrong with you and there is no shame in getting help when you need it.

  1. Thank you for answering these questions! I agree with everything you wrote, especially on the topic of honesty. To me, honesty & loyalty are essential to any type of relationship. How do you want to build anything if trust is impossible?
In any case, thanks again & have a nice day. ♡
